Five years after Katrina animals and their owners are still on their own when a disaster happens. The Red Cross will not shelter pets with their owners. Disaster responders are not trained to handle animals. Officials are not enforcing the PETS Act. It is time to do something about it: join DART!

Lamorinda DART (Disaster Animal Response Team)

Lamorinda DART is a group of experienced animal disaster responders. DART specializes in Animal Care and Sheltering during disasters. Our operational area includes the City of Lafayette, the Town of Moraga and the City of Orinda. Our emergency animal shelters are located near a shelter for people. Other partners are the Contra Costa County Animal Response Team (Contra Costa Animal Services), Noah's Wish, other DARTs in Contra Costa and the American Red Cross. Together, we rescue the whole family.

Animal Disaster Response Training in Auburn on March 6 and 7

Moraga, CA, January 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Lamorinda Disaster Animal Response (DART) is looking for new trainees to assist local emergency services and the communities of Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Canyon and Saint Mary’s in case of an emergency or a disaster. Disaster Anniversaries Near- Lamorinda's Community Emergency Response Team Hosts Drill & Training

Tuesday, October 20 is the 18th anniversary of the East Bay Hills Fire Storm and Saturday, October 17 is the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake. In an effort to better prepare the community to support local fire and law enforcement agencies during these types of emergencies, the Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will conduct a training and drill on Sunday, October 18th, 2009. The exercise will begin at 10:00 am and run until 4:00 pm. The functional training will be held in Orinda with primary activities being conducted at the Orinda Community Center at 28 Orinda Way from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Over 80 CERT volunteers and 60 “volunteer victims” from the community are expected to participate in the training.
