usDART

Five years after Katrina animals and their owners are still on their own when a disaster happens. The Red Cross will not shelter pets with their owners. Disaster responders are not trained to handle animals. Officials are not enforcing the PETS Act. It is time to do something about it: join DART!

Lamorinda DART (Disaster Animal Response Team)

Lamorinda DART is a group of experienced animal disaster responders. DART specializes in Animal Care and Sheltering during disasters. Our operational area includes the City of Lafayette, the Town of Moraga and the City of Orinda. Our emergency animal shelters are located near a shelter for people. Other partners are the Contra Costa County Animal Response Team (Contra Costa Animal Services), Noah's Wish, other DARTs in Contra Costa and the American Red Cross. Together, we rescue the whole family.

Missouri Dogfighting raid PDF Print E-mail
Written by Frans Hoffman
ImageIn Missouri, EARS volunteers are part of an unprecedented, multi-state dogfighting raid that took place on July 8. Right now, EARS volunteers are at a temporary shelter in Missouri, caring for approximately 400 dogs who were removed from alleged dogfighting operations in Illinois and Missouri. When the raid first took place, EARS volunteers helped veterinarians document the dogs' condition and got them settled into their temporary quarters. EARS volunteers are specially trained to handle large dogs who have been rescued from stressful situations. This operation is highly confidential, so we don't have any photos or details about the animals' condition to share with you. But we can tell you that the EARS volunteers are working their tails off for these dogs -- giving them the best care they have ever had in their lives and making sure shelter operations are running smoothly and efficiently. Fort Worth Puppy Mill PDF Print E-mail

EARS LogoEARS volunteers are braving 100-degree temperatures in Fort Worth, Texas, to care for 500 dogs and puppies who were removed from a puppy mill on July 7 . The number of animals will increase, as 25 of the dogs are pregnant moms who are due any day. EARS volunteers are assisting the Humane Society of North Texas, which investigated the situation for months. Many of the dogs are suffering from advanced debilitating health conditions. One elderly male poodle was virtually blind from severely matted fur and encrusted eyes. An elderly Chihuahua, suffering from a broken lower jaw, could only eat bits of kibble by carefully manipulating the angle of his head. Read more in the press release...
